Horseback Riding Guanacaste Region, Costa Rica

Horseback riding in Guanacaste is an exhilarating way to immerse yourself in the authentic “Sabanero” (cowboy) culture that defines this region of Costa Rica. Whether you are galloping across the sprawling, sun-drenched plains or trotting along the shoreline as the Pacific waves lap at your horse’s hooves, the experience offers a unique perspective that you simply can’t get from a car or on foot. It is incredibly fun because it combines the thrill of adventure with a peaceful connection to nature; you might find yourself ducking under tropical canopies to spot howler monkeys one moment and watching a fiery “Gold Coast” sunset from a high ridge the next. The rhythmic pace of the horse allows you to soak in the sights and smells of the dry tropical forest, making it a memorable highlight for anyone looking to feel the true spirit of Guanacaste.

Los Abuelos Restaurant Potrero Costa Rica

We have eaten here once before when it first opened and thought it was just okay.  We decided to give it another try, and we were pleasantly surprised! This restaurant is right next to Las Brisas, it does have a bit of a view of Playa Potrero.  Las Brisas does have the better view, but not necessarily better food. We ordered Patacones with guacamole.  Best ever, made fresh right there.  Patacones are flattened, fried plantains pancakes.  You use this as the chips for the guacamole, which was chunky and fresh.  It also came with a dish of Pico de Gallo.  For entree’s we ordered Mahi mahi fish tacos and the Chicken Cordon Bleu.  The fish tacos, were crispy shells, perfectly crunchy, just delicious!  The Chicken Cordon Bleu was seriously one the the best I ever had.  Again perfectly pan fried with a nicely thickened mushroom sauce on top with grilled veggies and fried potatoes or you can choose mashed.  Los Abuelos Facebook page Los Abuelos Menu The view from our Los Abuelos seat The kitchen Pactacones with guacamole and Pico De Gallo Chicken Cordon Bleu Mahi Mahi Tacos Grilled fish and taco lunch

This is the second time we ate here.  When we come to Tamarindo this is the restaurant we prefer to eat at.  Lots of delicious food and beverage choices.  And you cannot beat the location right on Playa Tamarindo.  You just need to kindly deny all the sellers that come up to you on the beach.  But hey, that is Tamarindo. I ordered a grilled Mahi Mahi casado with creamed Teriyaki sauce, just delicious.  My husband ordered Carnitas tacos, not so good.  Do yourself a favor and get the fish, they most likely catch it that day served fresh.  Hours are 7am-9pm daily   Trip Advisor Link Nogui’s website Link Playa Tamarindo Iguna in the tree at the Restaurant Plenty of city on the Beach A green smootie and frozen Lemonade with Tea Horseback riding on the beach Grilled fish and taco lunch

Estrela Azul

This is the second time we have been here.  It is off the beaten path, you need to go past another restaurant on the corner to get here.  The view is so Pura Vida!  You get a beautiful view of the Flamingo Marina.  We came about 3-4pm, it was not too crowded.  If you want to come for sunset, there might be a wait and food might take longer to make.  It seems like there is only one chef behind the counter. The service was so so.  I order a fish casado.  It was fried mahi mahi, pretty good, with black beans, fried plantains, and plain white rice.  My husband ordered Mahi Mahi with a garlic butter sauce.  At least his came with sauce. No happy hour, they only serve sodas, water, wine or beer.  It is worth coming here for the beautiful view and the prices are not too bad. Hours are 8am-9pm open everyday. El Diablito

This was our first time eating at El Diablito in Potrero Costa Rica.  We came about 4pm, we like to eat early.  We were the only ones in the restaurant.  The waitress was very nice, we ordered Margaritas, a classic and a Tamarind – both delicious.   For starters we had guacamole, the chips were thin and crispy, the guac was tangy and well blended. My husband and I shared a Molcajetes, of the farm.  It was served in a big volcano rock pot, piping hot.  It was like a meat soup, super delicious.  It came with homemade corn tortillas.   We had enough leftovers for another meal.  We actually kept the sauce and ate it with black beans.  I will most definitely be back. They are open from 4-10p every day, closed on Sundays.    TripAdvisor link FaceBook Link El Diablito Menu Outdoor eating Entrance Indoor eating Our Margaritas Our guacamole Our Molcajetes

Woodstock Burgers Surf Side

Meet one of the owners (above) of Woodstock Burgers in Surf Side, Potrero, Costa Rica. Her and her husband founded this restaurant.  He wanted to name it after Woodstock, the famous festival in the 1960’s since he was not able to go to it and always wanted to.  She found Woodstock is also a bird from Peanuts.  Having been trained as a chef in Europe, she is a fantastic cook.  She also started Carpe Diem, a breakfast restaurant also in Potrero. With the help of another family member, they founded this burger place. These burgers are absolutely delicious!  One of the cooks, who is also family, actually studied how to make the proper burger from YouTube. He got it right proving you can learn how to do pretty much anything on Youtube. This food truck/restaurant is in Surf Side, close next to Potrero Brewery, across the street from The Shack.   https://youtu.be/MFkaodmwAUM?si=WFYa3f2-JAkHZuP6

Reparito House in Potrero Costa Rica

Tne Reparito House in Potrero Costa Rica  is right behind Casa Del Sol Resort, where our Beach Condo is located.  It is known for delicious Mexican food made from the owner’s mother’s recipes.   Food like the owner’s Mother used to make.  Trip Advisor Reviews Check out their FaceBook Page Check out their Website Don’t go on Wednesdays, it is not open.  Their  hours are noon until 8pm. Our favorite foods there is the bowl, I like to add the steak.  My husband craves the tacos with a fried cheese shell, super delicious!
